This week has been frigid here in Michigan. Here in Alma, the low the other night was -27 degrees. And the highs average probably about 20 degrees. This Friday is going to be a blistering 36 degrees that is short sleeve shirt weather.
Lately we have been striving to get members excited about missionary work. It is hard to though in small towns. Right now it is way to cold to door knock, so we primarily are spending time at Members, less actives and recent converts homes. We have a few investigators that allow us to teach them periodically.
Part of the issue why members are not willing to help us out are previous missionaries that have ruined the relations between the branch and the elders. Especially the last elder that was here. Elder Louis from Hawaii. He was a firefighter (not a shocker that a Fire fighter would be a trouble maker) back in Hawaii. While here in the Ithaca area he treated it as a vacation area. He had his parents ship him his fire gear and his fire scanner, so that he could chase fire trucks. While here he helped at several fires and accidents, one primarily worse than the rest. It was a personal injury at an accident, and an asst. Chief assigned him to take car of the injured person until the ambulance arrived, the reason why the chief assigned him was because he was in emt-ff colors from a neighboring dept. that had responded. So he took care of the person. But later when the Chief found out who he was he was extremely mad, and took it out on a Less active member who is a volunteer Fire Fighter. Louis had committed two felonies and about 8 misdemeanors, and the chief wanted his name. But John (the less active) refused to give the chief the name, so John was reprimanded for that. But in a nutshell that is why the branch doesn't trust us very much.
Anyway... I am having a great time, the people here are great. I feel that as if they just need someone who will listen to them. I feel that I can be that person who can do that for them.
*******Highlight of the week=== I saw a Michigan State Police Suburban Canine Team at Wal-mart. The Trooper was taking reports for a shoplifting that had occurred. So I was unable to talk to him about stuff, but I did get some good pics of his car. Check out the website eldercodygfairbanks.weebly.com
Well that is all for this week, I will talk to you all soon.
